Scientific achievements, Metagalaxy sector
2004:
As a result of the BTA spectroscopy of a faint optical source (R=23),
earlier identified at the BTA with a compact (<3", VLA) radio source
RC J0311+0507 from the sample of objects with ultra-steep
radio spectra (RATAN-600), a radio galaxy with a strong narrow emission
line, the most likely identification of which is the Lyman-alpha
hydrogen at redshift of z=4.514. This is the second radio galaxy,
discovered at a redshift of more than 4.5 - a real candidate for
the most powerful radio objects of the Early Universe.
